Restorative Nursing Programs (RNPs) have been a part of the SNF setting for decades. What has changed over time are the incentives and/or disincentives to utilize such a program. If you need help determining whether or not a RNP is right for your facility population (they are not right for everyone!) and need guidance to get things started, you are in the right place.
This course will give you the tools to design and implement a RNP!
WHAT YOU WILL LEARN
- This course provides in depth discussion and training on the benefits of a RNP for facilities of different sizes and population types. RNPs impact on factors including Quality Measures problem areas, residents with Medicare Part A vs the long-term care population, survey success, the MDS score, and reimbursement are discussed in detail.
- The technical portion of the course reviews the required qualifiers for capturing a RNP on the MDS, as well the 11 types of Restorative Nursing Programs with examples for each: Passive and Active Range of Motion, Bed Mobility, Transfers, Walking, Splint Application, Amputation/Prosthesis Care, Dressing/Grooming, Eating/Swallowing, Communication, and Bower/Bladder Training Programs.
- The practical portion includes looking at the pros and cons of each population type, including focus on short term rehab vs long term care residents, as well as reviewing the benefits of a narrow focused program vs a broad scope program. The impact of a RNP on the MDS “score” or HIPPS Code is discussed in detail, and a custom Nursing Component training document is provided to allow facilities to determine the benefit of a RNP to the overall Case Mix Index and daily per diem rate for long-term care and Medicare Part A residents under the Patient Driven Payment Model.
